Plank-shaped figurines of the human form were usually made of clay or stone. These figurines were the basic representations of the human form in Cypriot art and were probably related to fertility, birth and death. They have been found mainly in tombs. Inspired by a plank-shaped figurine from Cyprus, dating back to around 2000-1800 BC, we created a unique paper cutter with an impressive handle. The paper cutter is made of brass and is a unique gift for a friend or colleague.

Clay plank-shaped figurines were the basic representations of the human form in Cyprus during the Early and Middle Bronze Age (2000-1600 BC). The figurines had a flat rectangular body with a narrow neck and head. The facial features and various ornaments were rendered in engraving or in paint. The nose, ears and breasts were rendered in relief. The plank-shaped figurines were used in funerary ceremonies and have been found mainly in tombs.

During the Early Cypriot III – Middle Cypriot I period (2000-1900 BC), similar figurines began to be made of stone. They were usually larger than the clay ones. They have a flat body with angular ends for the arms and hands. These figurines were usually associated with fertility and rebirth. Stone figurines of the plank-shaped type are rare and come from tombs of the period.
